Dry weather into Monday promotes elevated fire risk

Sunday was a warm day with high temperatures reaching the low 80s across the Stateline, but Monday may be a couple degrees warmer! High temperatures will again climb into the low 80s with plenty of sunshine, only giving way to some upper-level clouds into the evening.

The unseasonable warmth and breezy Southwest winds may promote an elevated brush and field fire risk once again. The lack of rainfall has dried out vegetation. Dry and warm air overhead along with those winds will allow for fires to spread quickly and be difficult to put out. Be sure to avoid outdoor burning and use caution with farm equipment!

Rain chances look slim through this week unfortunately. A weak system will bring a few elevated sprinkles through the area Tuesday afternoon, but lots of dry air near the surface may prevent most of that from reaching the surface. A secondary cold front follows Wednesday morning, but things again look dry along that front. All told, most will see no rainfall and those who do likely will see less than 0.1".

Even drier air moves back in Wednesday afternoon following that front, causing some breezy winds again. This may promote another fire risk Wednesday afternoon and evening with gusts near 25 mph from the Northwest. This wind also ushers in a cooler air mass, with high temperatures back in the 60s for a few days through Friday before another warmup possible into the weekend.
