Feeling more like September this weekend

This week's November-like chill is as Monster Inc's Mike Wazowski said "out of our hair". Though we sat under mostly clear skies overnight, winds remained warm out of the south and southeast.

This left morning temperatures 5°-15° warmer compared to Thursday, with most starting their day in the upper 30s. A spot or two may get cool enough for patchy frost. Thankfully, any frost that does manage to develop won't be nearly as widespread.

Sunshine will dominate our skies once again. This, along with a warm southwest breeze, will make for a relatively nice afternoon. Expect afternoon highs to peak in the upper 60s to near the 70° mark. For those heading to the BMO Center or to any high school football games this evening, conditions remain quiet with temperatures falling into the upper 50s.

The same high pressure system aloft will continue to keep our weather pattern warm and dry through the weekend and into next week. This is great news for outdoor plans, though not great news for our drought. situation. In the drought monitor issued yesterday, a severe drought has been reintroduced for portions of Illinois. It includes all of Jo-Daviess, Stephenson, and most of Winnebago County.

Unfortunately, the only chance for rain in the near term is with a weak weather system moving in from the west Monday night into Tuesday. Until then, sunshine will continue it's dominance, with afternoon highs climbing into the low 70s Saturday, then upper 70s Sunday and Monday. Temperatures this warm are typically what we see on average in mid-September, not two weeks before Halloween.
