Rain chances remain limited through next week

It has been a very dry stretch as of late, aside from 2 days of rain in the last month and a half. In October, the Rockford airport has only recorded a trace amount of rain, leaving us more than an inch and half shy from average through today's date. That is good for our second driest start to October on record through the 19th. Our last measurable rain was three and a half weeks ago, on September 24th.

Rain chances this week are very limited, partially given the very dry weather as of late. This has allowed for very dry low-levels to develop, preventing much of any potential rainfall from reaching the surface. Our only two chances for rain come Tuesday and Wednesday, but neither have much moisture to work with aloft.

That lack of moisture along with very dry air in the low levels will limit total rainfall, keeping many spots completely dry. Many computer models forecast little to no rainfall in the area through the end of the work week, and what little rain we might see will not amount to much in the grand scheme of things. Most locations will see less than 0.1" between Tuesday and Wednesday.

The secondary system on Wednesday will bring a sharp cool-down into the end of the week, with high temperatures returning near average between Wednesday and Friday. But another warmup appears likely for next weekend.
