Temperatures Monday morning fell into the mid and upper 30s, with Rockford's low officially falling to 37. This was the coolest morning low for Rockford since April. The chilly temperatures, light winds, and clear skies allowed areas of frost to develop, as Frost Advisories were issued just north of the viewing area in Wisconsin Sunday night.
Temperatures during the afternoon were still able to warm into the mid and upper 60s, a bit cooler from some of the unseasonable warmth we've felt over the last several days. But, more typical of where we should be for the beginning of October.
After a few clouds clear the region Monday evening skies will remain mostly clear Monday night. This combined with light winds and a very dry air mass will allow temperatures, for most, to dip back into the 30s, and I wouldn't be surprised if there was some patchy frost again Tuesday morning.
Temperatures will slowly begin to climb once again throughout the week as high pressure moves across the Great Lakes. This will bring highs Tuesday into the low 70s, mid-70s Wednesday and Thursday, and then into the 80s Friday ahead of a strong cold front that'll pass-through Friday night. Behind the front a cooler, almost chilly, air mass with temperatures falling into the 60s for the start of next week (at least for a short time).
