Hurricane Rina Update
Hurricane Rina continues to strengthen and slowly move toward the west at 3 mph. It is now a strong category-2 storm with 110 mph maximum sustained winds, located 250 miles southeast of Cozumel, MX. Additional strengthening is possible tonight and tomorrow, and Rina could soon become a major, category-3 hurricane. A hurricane warning is now in-effect for the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula from Cancun southward to Punta Gruesa. Rina is expected to produce a storm surge 5 to 7 feet above normal tide levels and drop 8 to 16 inches of rain on the eastern Yucatan when it brushes the area Wednesday night and Thursday.
