An area of low pressure that developed over the weekend is now centered over north-central Florida this morning. Flooding was a concern for some in Florida this weekend and will remain a threat as the low slowly moves up the east coast. While development into a tropical or subtropical cyclone is not likely heavy rain and very strong winds will continue for the next couple of days. Rainfall totals may approach three inches or more as the low moves north.
Closer to home a trough of low pressure extends from Canada all the way down into the southern Plains. While this brought heavy rain to parts of Texas over the weekend, it's losing a little of its force as it moves east. The low currently in Florida is actually keeping a lot of the gulf moisture south. This trough will move into the Midwest by Tuesday and bring a slight chance for a few showers late Tuesday afternoon. Once this system passes another cold front will develop and move into the Midwest Wednesday. It's the second cold front that could bring a few heavier showers, and maybe even a rumble of thunder, late on Wednesday into Thursday. As the second low develops it will help to kick the persistent ridge that has been in place all last week and this weekend to the east and replace the warm weather with much cooler weather by Friday.
