Preparations need to be made now in anticipation of the extended heat wave expected this week.
Temperatures this week will remain in the 90s and it likely won't be until the end of the weekend when we'll finally feel some relief.
With the jetstream just to the north and a warm front lifting through today, highs this afternoon will rise into the low to mid 90s followed by dew points in the upper 60s and low 70s. This will cause the heat index values (what it feels like when you step outside) to rise close to 100°, if not surpassing that in a few locations. In fact, the heat index through the week will remain in the triple digits all week. The only relief we'll feel from the heat would be if storms developed but unfortunately those chances look few and far between.
This is going to be the longest stretch of 90° or higher weather we've felt for several years. The expected long duration of this heat will take a toll on those most susceptable.
