Very hot weather will continue throughout the rest of the work week with temperatures expected in the upper 90s and lower 100s for northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.
Heat Advisories in effect for most of northern Illinois. Advisories in effect for northwestern Illinois until Saturday morning, and north central/eastern Illinois from Tuesday morning until Wednesday evening. If current forecasts hold, we may see those advisories extended through Friday. Temperatures expected in the upper 90s, nearing 100 for Tuesday with the heat index in the 100-105 range, and highs just over 100 for Wednesday, with the heat index in the 103-108 range.
An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect for much of south western/central Wisconsin lasting until Friday evening. Highs expected to reach into the lower 100s with heat indexes in the 100-110 degree range. The hottest day appears to be on Thursday.
If you will be working outdoors, or will be outside for an extended period of time, be sure to wear light and loose fit clothing, drink plenty of fluids, and take frequent breaks indoors or in the shade. Stay in air conditioning whenever possible and be sure to check up on relatives and neighbors. Please be sure never to leave pets or children in vehicles, as temperatures inside the vehicles can reach deadly levels in the matter of minutes.
