Changing Pattern Leads to Rain to Start the Week - Maybe Snow to End

This week in Illinois is Winter Weather Preparedness Week.  I know it's hard to think about winter after wrapping up a sunny, 60 degree Sunday afternoon but winter IS coming.  Whether you like it or not.

Throughout the week, we will be discussing multiple topics from winter hazards, winter preparedness and winter weather travel safety.

There are many different types of winter hazards that come during those cold months.  From extreme cold, heavy snow, blizzard conditions, ice storms and even ice jams (for those living along rivers).  It's important to understand what each hazard brings and how to prepare.  Knowing and listening to the forecast before hand can help better prepare you for what lies ahead.  Also, just like preparing for severe weather, have a plan in place.  What are you going to do if a blizzard or ice storm occurs and you lose power?  Do you have back-up power?  How about enough food and water to last a couple days?  What about your car?  Now is the time to think about those essential items you may need should you become stranded during a winter storm.  Extra food, batteries, blanket, shovel, cat litter or sand, etc.

Watch for more on winter weather preparedness this week!

And speaking of snow....there are a few snowflakes found on the 7-day forecast by the end of the week.  But first, we have to get through the rain that is on the way.  Here's your Sunday evening forecast.  Enjoy!
