Windy and dry Thursday turns snowy Friday
UPDATE: The Wind Advisory now includes all of northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.
The low pressure system that gave us the rain on Tuesday and Wednesday has now moved far to the north and east, but it continues to have an impact on our area. Today, as a high pressure system approcahes, our winds will really pick up and turn very gusty because of the large difference in pressure between the two systems. A Wind Advisory is in effect until 6pm tonight for all of southern Wisconsin and Winds will gust from the WSW up to 45mph today with sustained winds at 20-35mph. This will make north/south driving difficult.
The winds will die down on Friday and the day will start off dry, but then our next system comes into play. Ahead of an approaching low pressure system, a rain/snow mixture will enter the Stateline as we head into the late afternoon on Friday, while our temperatures are still above freezing. However, once the sunsets and our temperatures begin to fall, this will switch over to all snow overnight. This system has the potential to give us quite a bit of snow, up to about 6 or 7 inches, HOWEVER, it is still too far out to say for sure. 2-3 inches look probable, but we could also see more. This system is something that the First Warn Weather Team will continue to keep an eye on. In advance of the storm, the Nation Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for all of northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. This begins Friday at 6pm and will last through noon on Saturday. You'll want to start preparing now, will be a good idea to dust of the snow blower, and keep a little extra food on hand.
We will continue to update you on this system as we get more information!
