A Wind Advisory is in effect for all of Northern Illinois until 7pm tonight. Look for winds to continue through afternoon with gusts nearing 35 - 40 mph. We should be able to get a little sunshine in by the afternoon with temperatures reaching the low 70s.
Could you explain the difference between breezy and windy? Or other wind terms you use in the forecasts (gale-force, etc.) Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAccording to the National Weather Service, "breezy" is in the range of 15-25 mph. "Windy" is 20-30 mph. Very windy is 30mph or higher. I believe these are sustained winds, and not gusts. Personally, I like to use peak gusts to determine the terminology. If our strongest gust during the day is between 20 and 30 mph, I call it "breezy". If it's between 30 and 40, I call it "windy". Gusts above 40 mph fall into the "very windy" category to me. --TS
