Weekend Rain and Thunder Chances
With the exception of early April, we've been pretty high and dry throughout the month. That will all be changing as Friday comes around. A slow moving storm system currently in the southwest will begin it's move across the Plains today and tonight bringing severe weather to parts of the central and southern Plains this afternoon. As the system moves closer to the Great Lakes, a warm front will begin to move north across Illinois Friday. At the surface, easterly winds will keep the dry air in place through the morning but rain will become likely into late morning/early afternoon. We will remain on the north side (or cool side) of the front Friday, so any severe weather should stay south where more moisture, warmer temperatures and wind shear will be available. The front should stay just to our south through the weekend before the storm moves out Monday morning. While we won't have much of a severe threat, thunderstorms will still be possible along with the potential for some heavy rain. With the low not moving much this weekend and the continued influx of moisture, there could be some periods of heavy rain Friday night/Saturday morning and once again Saturday night into Sunday morning. Looking at some of the rainfall total forecasts - anywhere between one to two inches could fall over the weekend! We could sure use the rain but we definitely don't need it all at once!
