Below to near normal temperatures stick around

Under filtered sunshine Tuesday afternoon temperatures warmed into the mid and upper 20s, with Rockford's high reaching 27 degrees. The average high temperature is 29 degrees. We will continue to see cloud cover thicken through the evening but then clear once again overnight as an upper-level disturbance slips to our south. This will allow overnight lows to dip around 10 degrees. Tuesday morning temperatures dropped into the single digits.

Skies will remain partly cloudy through the day Wednesday with afternoon highs reaching the mid-20s. An increasing north wind aloft will race down the western Great Lakes Wednesday evening allowing for a slight increase in cloud cover during that time. From there a passing flurry or two can't be ruled out, but a better chance for any light snow will remain downwind of the Great Lakes. High pressure will build in through the night, leading to some clearing Thursday.

Winds will turn to the southwest Thursday afternoon on the backside of high pressure. This slightly warmer air mass moving over ground that has snow on it may lead to a little more cloud cover during the afternoon and evening. Highs on Thursday will remain in the mid and upper 20s.

Clouds will continue to thicken ahead of a cold front that'll pass through the Midwest Friday. To the south, a stronger low will move along the Gulf Coast producing accumulating snow for places like Texas, Arkansas, western Tennessee, and northwest Mississippi. Rain along with a wintry mix will also occur to the south.

Closer to home a few light snow showers will be possible Friday, but just how much will depend on how fast the front moves through the region, as well as how much moisture is left once the front comes through. Temperatures through the end of the week will remain in the upper 20s.
