A couple hundred miles makes all the difference! The latest winter storm dumped 6+ inches of snow across a broad region from Kansas to West Virgina, along Southern Illinois and Indiana. The latest snow depth shows how wide that path was, along with showcasing zero snow depth for most in the Stateline.
With that wide swath of snow missing us to the South, Rockford continues to grow our snowfall deficit from average. Typically, we would have seen over a foot by now on average, but we've only seen 5.2" this season. Through today's date, Rockford typically sees nearly 2" of snow, but we haven't seen any measurable snow so far in January.
Our next chance for a few flurries will arrive Wednesday afternoon with a weak disturbance passing to the Northeast. Cloud cover may end up reaching low enough to spit out a few flakes, but we won't see enough for measurable snowfall.
The next chance for accumulating snowfall would arrive Friday. There is still a lot of uncertainty regarding the track of this system, but the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley regions could be in line for another round of snowfall during this window. Stay tuned to the forecast this week!
