The bitter cold has held a firm grip on the Stateline this year and today will be no different.
Morning temperatures have fallen into the single digits, but a light southerly wind has left wind chill values close to or below zero.
Similar to Wednesday, sunshine will accompany this morning chill, with skies turning partly cloudy for the afternoon. Highs will end up a touch warmer, peaking closer to the 30° mark.
Our attention will then turn to an incoming Clipper system that's scheduled to slide through the western Great Lakes Thursday night into the first half of Friday. With it will come the chance for Rockford to see it's first snowflakes of 2025.Scattered flurries and snow showers look to develop after the midnight hour, with chances lingering into the morning commute Friday. Overall, this will not bring high impacts to the morning drive, though a few slippery spots will be possible.
Accumulation-wise, most will end up between a trace to 1", with higher totals to our south and east. Snow chances look to wind down before noon, leaving us mostly cloudy for Friday afternoon. Temperatures will be very similar to this afternoon, landing around the 30° mark. A secondary clipper system takes aim at the Stateline Saturday night into Sunday, bringing with it another quick shot at some snowflakes. Impacts look low at this time, though some locales may be able to pick up another 1".
