Monday morning weather update

Temperatures have been holding steady in the mid and upper teens for the last few hours under mostly cloudy skies. Some clearing has been taking place to the north and west, but with cooler air moving in we'll continue to see partly sunny skies through the afternoon. After highs Sunday struggled to make it above 20 degrees, temperatures Monday will warm into the mid-20s, still a handful of degrees below average. Blustery northwest winds will keep chills in the teens during the afternoon.

Late Sunday evening there were reports of light freezing drizzle east and southeast of Rockford, and some light, patchy freezing drizzle will still be possible across our far eastern counties of DeKalb and McHenry. The highest threat, however, will remain outside of the immediate viewing area.

Temperatures throughout the week will remain in the 20s as overnight lows fall into the single digits and teens. Dry skies can be expected until late week when a storm system moves in from the southwest, bringing us at least a small chance for a few snow showers Friday.
