By now I'm sure you've heard of the heat and humidity in the forecast as we look towards of the end of he week, but will it be record breaking?
Well, we have to travel back to 1933 to find record high temperatures for the 10th and 11th of June (Friday and Saturday this week) in Rockford. The forecast
highs are 90° and 93° for Friday and Saturday, while the record is set at 98°. While temperatures likely won't get that high, heat index values could get close.
This mini heat wave is due to a large and high amplify ridge that has been stuck in the west, bringing the desert regions, west coast, and pacific northwest record breaking heat. Temperatures the past week have been about 15-25° above average in those regions with highs hoovering in the 90's and close to 100°. This is dangerous for the pacific northwest because they typically don't have air conditioners. You'll want to crank the a/c this weekend if you can, or find a way to stay cool!
The heat wave looks to be cut short on Sunday with a backdoor cold front that will be arriving and will drop temperatures back into the 80's by Sunday afternoon .
