Summer-Like Heat Returns for the End of the Week

We've already had a few hot days this spring, but it looks like Mother Nature is going to provide more for the end of the upcoming week.

Cool Northwest flow in the jet stream (winds coming in from the Northwest) over the Great Lakes will keep an unsettled weather pattern Monday and Monday night.  Scattered showers and even a thunderstorm or two can't be ruled out during the afternoon and evening Monday.  Temperatures will be cool Tuesday with highs close to 70 degrees, nearly ten degrees below average.  But that trend ends by the end of this week.

Record heat out west associated with a big ridge of high pressure will shift east into the middle of the country and Great Lakes.  This will bring near triple digit heat over the High Plains and highs possibly in the low 90's from Friday through Sunday locally.  That, combined with high humidity, could push the heat index into the low to mid 90's.  With the heat will come the chance for an isolated thunderstorm or two.  The first arriving possibly Thursday night into Friday.

A cool front with high pressure settles down the western Great Lakes towards the weekend which could keep the storm threat through the weekend and may have an impact on our highs Sunday.  But for now, it looks like the heat will be on.
