Cooling Down For The Holiday

We woke up to some fog on this Friday morning with visibilities as low as 2.5 miles in Rockford earlier this morning.  The fog is now dying down, and should be cleared out by the time we reach mid-day.  However, we do hang on to the cloudy conditions going into the afternoon, where highs will reach the upper 30's by around 3pm.

Once we get into the evening we'll start to see the clouds break up, leading to partly cloudy conditions during the overnight.  Along with that, we'll get some northerly air moving through, which will keep us dry, but cool our temperatures quickly.  We'll see lows in the low 20's during the overnight.

As we head into the weekend a high pressure system will form out west, which will enhance that cold air inflow into our area during the weekend and even next week as well.  We'll see highs in the upper 20's on Saturday, mid 20's on Sunday, all the way down to possibly the mid teens by the middle of next week.

Our next chance for snow will be coming up early Sunday morning, when a low pressure system forms north of Michigan.  This will generate some instability over our area, allowing for the light snow to occur.  By the time we get to the afternoon, high pressure will take over and allow for sunshine.

As for Christmas, we're looking at a chilly afternoon with highs only in the mid 20's, but we'll get lots of sunshine to go along with the cold.  Even though we're not expecting snow on Christmas anymore, the snow from Sunday will stick as temperatures will be below freezing through most of next week.  Thus, we'll still be able to wake up to some snow on Christmas morning.
