Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for parts of central and east-central Wisconsin Wednesday, as accumulating snow over five inches will be possible northeast of a line from Port Washington to Fond du Lac.
An approaching warm front from the west will move through Wisconsin and northern Illinois late Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning. A band of light to moderate snow is forecast to develop along the leading edge of the warm front. Light snow showers have already develop over northwest Wisconsin late Tuesday evening, with a few radar returns showing up over northern Illinois. No snow is in the forecast for the Stateline this evening as our atmosphere is a bit too dry to allow anything to reach the ground. Although as the warm front approaches late tonight, there could be a few flurries that do end up making it to the surface.
While most of the snow will occur over Wisconsin early Wednesday, I do think a narrow band of snow will occur between 4am and 8am from Janesville down to Rockford, and points to the east. If this band of snow does develop, it will be quick to move out but could cause some slick roads early in the morning.
Once the warm front passes skies will turn dry mid-morning with the potential for more snow, possibly a mixture of rain/snow/sleet, during the early afternoon as the surface low moves into northern Illinois. Right now it looks like the highest accumulating snowfall will occur over Wisconsin, but a southward shift in the surface low could place a band of moderate snow very close to areas that received the heavier snowfall Monday afternoon.
Snow totals around half an inch are likely, with higher amounts found to the north.
