Isolated storms fired up yesterday afternoon and evening, and brought heavy downpours and gusty winds for some celebrating the 4th of July. Thankfully the coverage of storms was relatively low through Wednesday, but we aren't done with the storm threat yet.
A cold front positioned to our west in Iowa will continue to move east over Illinois this afternoon and evening. Ahead of that, a disturbance that brought a complex of storms over Iowa overnight will move over Illinois late morning and early afternoon. This along with our unstable air mass will help to trigger scattered showers and storms late this morning and into the early afternoon. It's unlikely that these storms will be severe, but there is a marginal outlook near and south of I-88. This could lead to some gusty storms through the late afternoon. Along with that, heavy downpours are likely due to the very muggy air mass that's in place over the Stateline.
Storms will linger through about the dinner time hour, before storms sink south. Then high pressure builds in tonight and Friday bringing in a cooler and drier air mass. Highs Friday will remain in the low 80's with comfortable humidity levels.
