The heat and humidity ramps up this afternoon with abundant sunshine and a southerly wind that will bring in that 'swampy' air mass.
A heat advisory has been issued for Carroll and Whiteside counties beginning at 1pm today and lasting through 7pm tonight. Heat index values in these areas will climb into the low 100's today, along with many areas in Iowa. These areas are closer to the core of the heat and upper ridge.
While the rest of the area isn't included in the advisory, it will still be very hot and humid. Temperatures are forecast to climb into the low 90's but with dew points in the 70's it will feel like it's in the upper 90's this afternoon
Make sure to remember heat safety tips, and take it slow if you're outside for a long periods of time today. The mugginess remains this weekend but with temperatures slightly cooler, it won't feel AS hot.
