It has been a GREAT summer weekend! Temperatures warmed into the upper 70's and low 80's, but the best part of the weekend was the abundant sunshine and low levels of humidity.
High pressure not only at the surface, but also in the mid and upper levels of the atmosphere, allowed for quite a bit of sinking air Friday, Saturday and Sunday. With sinking air all throughout the atmosphere, cloud cover was nearly void the entire weekend, as clouds require rising air to form. High pressure will begin shifting east late Sunday night and Monday. This will allow winds to shift around to the south, bringing temperatures up a few more degrees Monday afternoon, but also increase the humidity over northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. Dew point temperatures will warm back into the mid and upper 60's, which could push the heat index into the low 90's Monday afternoon.
