With Tuesday bringing our first measurable rainfall since September we can begin to look ahead to another chance of much needed rainfall. Thursday night into Friday morning looks to be another chance of not just rainfall but measurable rainfall as well. This will be much needed as even with yesterday's rainfall drought conditions are expected to continue for the state line.
Tomorrow will be a more classic fall day as temperatures will remain in the 60's with cloud cover building through the day tomorrow. Rain chances won't come till later in the evening though as most of the day all available moisture will stay in the upper levels of the atmosphere causing the cloud cover. But moisture does look to increase towards the night helping those precipitation chances. This moisture will be transported by a feature called the low-level jet. This is a feature in the atmosphere that often occurs and peaks at night due to a change in temperature just above the surface of the earth. The low-level jet often is orientated out of the south so due to this it often transports gulf moisture from the south as well as warmer temperatures. With more moisture funneled into the low levels along with strengthening winds in the upper levels these two together really help precipitation chances. Ahead of a cold front on Friday low level jet winds look to peak helping fuel showers and possible thunderstorms throughout the state line Thursday night. Instability as of now looks to be limited but a rumble of thunder can't be ruled out tomorrow night, but the main thing is that chances of measurable rain once again look to be possible. This will be the only chance for precipitation though through the rest of the week as high pressure through the weekend will keep us dry. But with a pattern switch coming later into next week, some stronger upper-level winds look to return allowing for some higher precipitation chances as well as warmer temperatures through the beginning of the week.
