Many locations in the Stateline finally saw some much-needed rainfall last night, but some spots saw much more than others. The Rockford airport received 0.73", while radar estimated some spots on the Southern fringes of the viewing area saw well over 1" of rain!
Unfortunately, even with that near additional 3/4" of rain for Rockford, we are still more than 1.25" shy short from where we should be this far into the month. That is exasperated by a dry September and August as well, hence the growing drought conditions across much of the Stateline.
At least the dry weather falls over a weekend this time, leading to fantastic weather for any outdoor trunk-or treats over the next couple days! There will be plenty of sunshine both days, with highs reaching the mid to upper 50s Saturday and low 60s Sunday!
Looking ahead to next week, we have some big changes on the way. Strong Southerly winds will take over both aloft and at the surface, leading to windy conditions through mid-week and our next chance at rain and some storms Wednesday into Thursday.
That warm weather will actually near record high temperatures for Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures reaching near 80° both days! The record high for Tuesday's date is 81° set back in 1922, while Wednesday's record high is 83° set in 1955. We will see our next batch of showers in the Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning window. We will need to keep a close eye on whether or not those showers clear in time for Halloween festivities Thursday, so stay tuned for that forecast! There is more confidence on Thursday being cooler, as the high temperature that day will be in the upper 50s.
