Too little; Too much

A blocking pattern has set-up with low pressure in the east and west helping to keep us quiet, but cool, for the next couple of days.  Unfortunately this means locally heavy rainfall will plague some of the east coast where some could see close to five inches of rain by the end of the week.  An area of low pressure in the east continues to pull in moisture from the Atlantic and with the main jetstream well to the north in Canada, there is nothing to push the low off the east coast.  Same thing out west, heavy rain and even mountain snow will continue through midweek until the upper low moves into the Midwest.

On the other hand, rainfall is something they're lacking across the extreme southern Plains.  Outside of some much needed rain that did fall across parts of the Lone Star state last week, some locations have reported no rain or only a couple hundredths in the rain bucket since the beginning of April!  Extreme drought continues for residents throughout Texas, southeast New Mexico and even extending northward into Oklahoma.
