A Very Cool Start to the Week

Low pressure is continuing to move very slowly off to the east. A sprawling ridge of Canadian high pressure stretches from Hudson Bay to southern Manitoba and then due south across the plains to the Texas coast. This will continue to feed very chilly air for this time of year across the Stateline. There may be some patchy frost to the northwest of Rockford tonight with winds diminishing from the northeast and mostly clear skies. On Monday there will be very little movement of weather systems. Skies will be sunny, and after a chilly start in the middle 30's afternoon temperatures will top out well below average...near 60 degrees. The wind will pick up a bit during the heating of the day from the northeast at 10 to 15 mph with a few gusts to around 20 mph. The cold Canadian ridge will edge a little eastward on Monday night, and with clear skies, low dew points, and light and variable winds, there cound be patchy areas of frost after midnight across the Stateline. Not much in the way of precipitation is anticipated during the upcoming work week. A gradual warmup will take place from midweek through next weekend that will put afternoon high temperatures back in the 70's by Friday. Some scattered showers may occur on Thursday, and scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible on Saturday and Sunday.
