Warmth this weekend not expected to last

While a warm up is expected this weekend, don't look for it to last too long.  In fact, it looks like we could end the month of May with temperatures falling below average, again.

A fairly stationary storm system in the west has been moving into the Plains today as the low along the east coast has now moved out into the Atlantic.  A warm front, which has been the focus for showers and storms to the west, will slowly move north through the overnight.  Scattered showers and storms are expected this weekend as the surface low moves through the northern Plains.  The cold front will pass Monday and, as it looks right now, a building Canadian high pressure system will move into the northern Great Lakes stalling the front through central Illinois.  With the jet stream almost running parallel to the front, a series of low pressure systems will likely move along it.  Locally heavy rainfall will be possible into early next week especially to the south of us.  Now should this boundary shift a little further north the focus for the storm activity would then be placed over the Stateline.

High temperatures into the middle of next week are going to be in the middle 60s.
