Weekend snow has added to the total this season

It seems as if snowfall this winter season has been hard to come by; until we got to this past weekend.  A series of Albert clipper systems boosted snowfall totals with the largest snow event of the season occurring this past weekend.

Snowfall totals from Sunday night/early Monday morning ranged roughly from 2"- 4" area wide.  The Chicago/Rockford Int'l Airport (official reporting site for Rockford) recorded 3.4", making it the largest snow event we've experienced all season!

Until this past weekend December and January had only produced 4.8" of snow.  After these quick moving clipper systems this weekend we managed to pick up 6.6" of snow putting our seasonal total up to 11.4".  This also means that over half of our seasonal total came from this past weekend.  The last time there was measurable snow (0.1" or more) four straight days in a row was back on February 25th-28th, 2011.  We may add a little more to this total Tuesday with the last of the clipper systems moving through.  After that the jetstream returns to more of a west to east flow meaning storm systems through the remainder of the week with have a little more mild air with them as they will have originated from the Pacific rather than the Arctic.
