Another dip in temperatures, but a slow warming trend is in sight

Rockford officially picked up 1.2" of snow Saturday morning with areas east and south receiving a little more.  Now that the snow has ended, the chill will once again set in for Sunday afternoon.  A reinforcing shot of colder air will be in place Sunday afternoon as an upper level low passes through Iowa and Illinois.  This will not only bring back the cloud cover, but it will also bring back a little light snow through Monday.  After Monday, temperatures will begin to moderate through the middle of the week as low pressure builds in the southern Plains.

Southerly winds will push a stationary boundary closer to the Stateline Wednesday drawing in a little more moisture northward.  Temperatures will warm into the 40's south of the front, but remain in the teens and 20's north of the front and over a fresh snow pack.  Fog will also be an issue north of the front where warmer air moves over top colder air at the surface.  However, where exactly the front sets up is the big question.  As of now, it looks like the stationary front will straddle the Wisconsin/Illinois border meaning a mixture of snow, sleet and rain will be likely Thursday before changing over to snow Friday as the low passes to the east by Friday night.  Temperatures then look to take another dip for the upcoming weekend.
