11:20am Heaviest of the freezing rain just to the south of the state line and moving north.  Another area of concern is in and around Dixon, Amboy and Sterling with heavier pocket of freezing rain moving through Lee County.

10:40am Update: Freezing rain/sleet will continue through the remainder of the morning and into the early afternoon.  So far, ice accumualtions have been around 0.10", not enough to bring down trees, but enough to really cause roads to become slick.  Temperatures will remain below freezing through the afternoon so not much melting will occur.

The greatest timing impact on roads will be through the early afternoon, however, slick roads will continue through the evening commute.

A Freezing Rain Advisory has been extended until 3pm for the following counties: Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Ogle, Lee, DeKalb, Green, Rock and Walworth.

A Freezing Rain Advisory has been extended until Noon for Stephenson, Jo Daviess, Carroll and Whiteside counties.

Temperatures overnight were in the low 30's but have now fallen back into the middle and upper 20's in Northern Illinois.  This will cause anything that falls the remainder of this morning to fall in the form of freezing drizzle/rain and possibly mixing in with light snow.  There have been numerous reports of accidents and very icy roads Friday morning, so it's important to remember that you will not be able to see the ice on the roads as they'll just look wet.  Please allow yourself extra time to get where you need to go this morning.

A second wave of moisture is currently lifting in from the southwest from Sterling and Dixon and will be in Rockford within the next 30-40 minutes.  Once this wave passes the majority of precip will move out.  However, the threat for freezing drizzle or even a few flurries will last into the evening.
