Tracking A Potential Weekend Winter Storm

You might have heard about a big winter storm brewing for this weekend, so before I start this post, I just want to stress that THIS IS NOT A FORECAST. It is merely a discussion about what COULD happen over the weekend.

Many models are showing a powerful storm system passing to our south Saturday night into Sunday. The storm track will determine not only what type of precip we get, but how much of it falls in the Stateline. So let's take a look at two possible scenarios.

SCENARIO #1: Low pressure swings further north.

This would be the best scenario for a significant winter storm. Some models are suggesting anywhere from 6-12" of snow in parts of central and northern Illinois if this happens. A wintry mix could also be part of the equation, but once again, that all depends on how far north this system moves.

SCENARIO #2: Low pressure swings further south.

This would be great news for the Stateline, because the nastiest winter weather would stay to our south. In this case, some accumulating snow would still be possible, but it would be far less than the 6-12" scenario #1 suggests.

Stay tuned all through the week as we get new information about this storm system and be prepared for the worst. Hopefully it won't be as nasty as some models are saying! -BA
