Weather Update Sunday Evening with Snow Totals

The weekend snow will soon be coming to an end!  But there have been some pretty decent snowfall amounts throughout the area.

Moderate snow developed mid to late morning Sunday and hasn't really let up since.  However, the back edge of the snow is now passing through northwest Illinois which has allowed visibility to come up some from earlier in the afternoon.  The snow will continue to come to an end from west to east by 9pm/10pm this evening with only a few flurries expected by Midnight.  With the snow coming to an end Sunday evening roads should mostly be plowed by Monday morning.  Secondary and country roads could still be slick with temperatures remaining below freezing.

As low pressure passes to the south Sunday evening, surface winds will begin to shift around to the north/northwest and increase slightly.  Wind gusts into Monday morning could be as high as 20 mph.  I'm not anticipating significant blowing snow because the snow that fell Sunday had a little more weight to it.  But in open and rural areas you may notice some of the snow blowing over the roadways.  Because of that I urge you to allow yourself a little extra time in the morning and remind any new drivers in your house to be careful on their way to school.  Click here for a look at current roads conditions in Illinois.
