Here Comes the Warmth!!

We've got another Wind Chill Advisory this evening in effect until Saturday at 10:00am.  During this time, wind chills will dip to as low as -25° overnight, slightly warming up during the morning but still staying below zero.  However, by Saturday afternoon, we'll see wind chills above zero!

We've got one last high pressure system to deal with that'll pull in arctic air towards our area, which will last through the overnight into Saturday morning.  However, by Saturday afternoon, this same high pressure system will actually end up helping us out.

Once that high tracks further southeast, it'll help shift our winds out of the south, and with the aid of a low pressure system out west, a strong channeling of warm air will be created that flows right into our area.  This will warm us up into the 30's by Sunday afternoon, but with all that moisture comes chances for precipitation, which will include snow showers during Sunday afternoon.

This cold front will bring the snow showers on Sunday.  The front will be weak, only cooling us down into the low 20's Sunday night after it moves out.  Snow accumulations look to stay on the smaller side for this system, around half an inch.

Once we get into the work week we get to maintain those 30's with sunshine on Monday and Tuesday.  Wednesday the clouds roll in, paving the way for another chance of snowfall on Thursday.

Here are the results so far from the cold weather that the Polar Vortex has brought.  You'll see that it's been quite a while since we've seen the 30's, and have dealt with numerous nights in the negatives, and multiple days where temperatures only stayed in the single digits.  We even broke one record during all of this, and that was the coldest start to a new year in the Rockford area.

We hit a high of -1° Monday afternoon, beating the previous record of 4° from 1974.
