Records Tumble New Year's Day

Low temperatures Monday morning fell to 13 degrees below zero.  This tied the record low previously set back in 1968.  Not only did we tie the record low, but we also broke the coldest record high temperature as highs failed to warm above 0 degrees!  The previous record was 4 degrees, set back in 1974.  January 1st, 2018 will officially go down as the coldest New Year's day on record in Rockford.

Monday night will be just as cold with overnight lows ranging from 11 to 20 degrees below zero.  The record low temperature in Rockford for January 2nd is 17 degrees below zero, and we won't be too far from that Tuesday morning.

A Wind Chill Advisory and a Wind Chill Warning are in place through Noon Tuesday, with wind chills expected to fall as low as 35 degrees below zero.
