Late Week Strong Storms Update

Friday Severe Weather Outlook
Throughout Friday, storms are possible, but become more likely in the afternoon and early evening. Our severe threat is not as significant as portions of Iowa and southern Minnesota that will see the strongest line of storms on Friday. They are under a Moderate Risk for severe weather.  That level of risk is uncommon this late in the season, though not impossible, as Friday's outlook from the Storm Prediction Center indicates.
As for the Stateline, the farther north and west you are, the higher chances you have for more active weather.  Those area are currently under a slight risk for severe weather--as indicated by the counties shaded in yellow.
The main threats from the storms are high wind gusts and possibly some hail.  Some heavy downpours can't be ruled out either.  Thursday's storms actually dropped quarter-sized hail and 60+ mph wind gusts in the Chicagoland area.  That indicates, this system is potent enough to cause some more active weather on Friday. - MT
To recap:
  • Highest threat of active weather is Friday afternoon and evening.
  • Threat of severe storms are for our north and western counties
  • Wind and hail are the main threats
