Tropical Storm Karen formed earlier this morning in the Gulf and is expected to move onshore sometime this weekend. Tropical Storm Karen is currently moving to the north/northwest around 12 mph - central pressure was recorded at 1004 mb with sustained winds near 65 mph.
Wind shear within the atmosphere will likely prevent TS Karen from becoming a hurricane but Hurricane Watches and Tropical Storm Watches have been issued for the gulf shores of Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and the panhandle of Florida. An approaching upper level trough (same system that will impact us this weekend) will likely give Karen a push further to the east, but it does look like some of the moisture from the system will become wrapped up into the upper level trough as it moves east.
