As Weekend Meteorologist Max Tsaparis talked about this weekend, another big chill is expected to hit the Stateline this week with temperatures once again dropping below zero overnight and highs struggling to reach the double digits.
As of 11:30am a fairly stationary cold front sits in Southern Wisconsin and extends back through Iowa and into the Dakotas. Light snow continues to slide southeast through the Plains and Midwest with an upper level low that will bring a little lighter snow to the Stateline for this evening and tonight. Not much is expected, but it could be enough to cause the roads to become a little slick and as winds increase from the west and northwest, blowing snow may occur in open and rural areas. Just keep that in mind for your evening/late evening commute.
Once that wave has passed, the cold will then set in. Temperatures tonight, depending on cloud cover and how quickly the cold air arrives, will dip near zero - if not slightly below by Tuesday morning. With a strong northwest wind, wind chills will likely fall to -20 degrees to -25 degrees overnight. As a result, a Wind Chill Advisory will go into effect at midnight for Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin.
Overnight lows the next several nights will fall below zero with highs only expected to reach the single digits and middle teens through the end of the week. Looking out towards the end of the month and there doesn't appear to be many promising signs of any warm ups coming. But hey, by now we're pretty used to the cold, right?!?
