There's only 17 days before Christmas but when you step outside it doesn't really feel like it. Temperatures will trend well above normal, at least 10 degrees above normal, through Sunday. Our normal temperatures for this week of December are between 33°-35°, while our actual temperatures will trend between 45° and 53°. Overnight low temperatures will also stay very mild this upcoming week; with forecasted lows staying above 35° through Saturday. Our normal overnight low temperature for this time of year is 23°, some nights this week our overnight lows will warmer than our average HIGH temperature! Not too bad for this week of December.
There are spotty rain chances that stick with us this week, however any rain that falls will be minimal. This will change however this weekend as our pattern begins to change. A dip or trough in the jet stream will develop over the central plains over the middle of the week. This will keep the southerly flow into the Stateline coming through the weekend. With an increase of moisture from the Gulf streaming into the area, heavy rain will be possible Saturday into Sunday with our next low pressure system that ejects out of the southern plains Friday. The timing on this system is still uncertain, as its still too far in the future, but about an inch and a half of rain is possible over the weekend into Monday. This system also looks to produce snow for central and northern Wisconsin, as well as posses the possibility for storms in the southern plains.
We'll continue to track the system and keep you up to date on the timing and track of the rain.
