For those of you upset with the low probability of experiencing a White Christmas, would you settle for a little light snow one week early?
The cold air is in place and will get a little colder Friday afternoon. Clear Thursday evening skies will fill back in with cloud cover by Friday morning with the arrival of the core of cold air. At the same time a strong, but small, upper level low will move out of the Dakotas and into Iowa, Wisconsin and northern Illinois shortly after Noon Friday. While moisture levels in the atmosphere are shallow - meaning the depth of moisture isn't thick - the upward movement of air will be great. With temperatures below freezing at the surface and aloft, flurries or even light snow showers could occur through the late afternoon. It won't be much, but a heavy burst of snow - even if only brief - may give a light coating to grassy surfaces. This could come just as you're ready to head home from work Friday, so be mindful of your drive.
