We had a much nicer start this morning withe clear skies allowing for a beautiful sunrise for the commute. Temperatures will warm up quickly though heading through the day, and it'll get pretty muggy too, as dew points will climb to the low 70s. Temperatures will hit the upper 80s with heat indices in the low 90s this afternoon, with thunderstorms moving in as well.
We have a marginal risk for severe weather late this afternoon and evening. A few isolated thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon, but those aren't expected to be strong. The scattered activity reaches us late this afternoon and evening when a cold front arrives.
Overall the severity of the storms will stay low, with a few strong wind gusts and heavy showers being possible in these thunderstorms. Heavy showers will be likely south of Rockford, but the gusty winds will be possible for all of the Stateline while the front pushes southward.
Luckily, after the storms this evening we've got a beautiful weekend in store for us as a high pressure system will push in behind the front. We'll get sunshine and cooler temperatures in the low 80s for Friday, then sunshine and the mid 80s for the weekend.
