Stormy Monday Morning

After several rounds of heavy rain producing storms moved through the area yesterday evening and overnight, there are more storms developing this morning.

Scattered cells are developing ahead of a complex of storms arriving from northeastern Iowa. This complex is weakening as it moves east around 30mph, but is still capable of gusty winds and heavy downpours, along with occasional lightning. You'll want to watch for ponding on area roads as more rain falls this morning and afternoon, after many areas west of Rockford picked up 1-2" of rain overnight.

We'll get a bit of a midday break from rain, but should remain under cloudy skies. Our boundary currently is forecast to lay near I-88 and I-80 this afternoon, after being pushed there due to morning storms. If this forecast holds, this would bring the higher threat for strong to potentially severe storms in and around this corridor. Currently there is a slight risk for severe storms this afternoon in that area, with ample instability and shear developing with some filtered sunshine. Storms look to develop around 2pm this afternoon and last through the evening.

Heavy rain, strong wind gusts, and potentially large hail will all be possible threats in any storms that develop this afternoon. Again the highest potential for strong to severe storms will be near I-88 to I-80 and south this afternoon, but across far northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, strong storms can't be ruled out just yet.
