Hurricane Earl has weakened somewhat to a category 2 storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale, with maximum sustained winds now at 110 mph. It's currently moving slightly east of due north at about 18 mph and is located 160 miles south/southeast of Cape Hatteras, NC. On it's present track, it will pass just to the east of North Carolina's outer banks (see track in graphic above). However, Earl will still produce high seas, winds of 70 mph or higher, and dangerous rip currents across much of the mid-Atlantic coast tonight into tomorrow. --TS
