"Super" Harvest Moon Tonight

I think we'll have just enough breaks in the overcast for a view of the extra-bright "Super" harvest moon tonight. The harvest moon is the full moon that occurs closest to the fall equinox. Since the fall equinox (at 10:09 pm tonight) occurs just a few hours from the moon's fullest point this month, it'll look bigger and brighter in the sky. This is because the moonrise and sunset occur at the same approximate time, and the rays from the sun will hit our natural satellite more directly. If you missed the view Wednesday night, we'll also have an opportunity to see the almost-full harvest moon on Thursday night. We'll just have to hope that the clouds ahead of a coming cold front hold-off until after midnight!  --TS
