What's Left of Nicole
Nicole was once a tropical storm as it crossed Cuba and headed towards Florida. Now, it's lost its tropical characteristics and has become a low pressure system that one would typically find in the mid-latitudes. It's located near the outer banks of North Carolina, and is heading northward toward the mid-Atlantic states and New England with 6 or more inches of rain and winds of 60 mph or higher in some locations. (Nicole's left-overs have dropped more than 11" of rain in New Burn, NC.) Because of the heavy rain and high winds, downed trees and power outages are a concern over the northeastern U.S. So just because it's no longer tropical, doesn't mean it can't do any major damage! We'll hope that doesn't happen, but residents in the northeast should be prepared. --TS
