Excessive Heat Continues in the South

It's been the same old story for much of the summer for residents in the southern Plains and along the gulf states; high heat and high humidity.  A Heat Advisory and even Excessive Heat Warnings have been issued for the mid and lower Mississippi River Valleys, through the south and even up the east coast.  This next week, and probably the rest of the month, will be no different.  A fairly significant ridge of high pressure in the southeast will continue to build the next couple of days providing triple digit readings again this afternoon.  Current temperatures under the ridge this morning didn't drop much past the low 80s in some spots.  Air sinks and compresses under high pressure which has been causing the extreme heat in the south.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like there's much relief in sight because that ridge in the southeast will begin to build further west and even north as the jet stream lifts into Canada by this weekend.  That means that temperature readings in the 90s will be possible for us once again by Saturday and Sunday.
