Heat Danger for Kids and Pets

With perhaps the hottest weather of the year coming our way this weekend into next week, it's important to keep in mind how dangerously hot the interior of a car can get  -- even with the windows cracked. A study by the Animal Protection Institute showed that an 88-degree temperature outside translates to a 103-degree temperature inside a vehicle -- even with all four windows cracked.

When exposed to such conditions for an extended period of time, people and pets are susceptible to hyperthermia; a condition where the body produces or absorbs more heat than it can extract. Hyperthermia can lead to kidney failure, brain damage, and even death. Keep in mind that young children are more susceptible to this condition than adults!

Stay safe out there, and use common sense! Many -- if not most -- of our days will see highs in the 90s this weekend into next week!
