Tuesday Evening Weather Update

8:15pm Update:
The transition over to light snow has already begun with some reporting very light accumulations across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.  The Winter Weather Advisory remains in place for Green, Rock and Walworth counties, but has been canceled for Stephenson, Jo Daviess and Carroll counties.  Grassy surfaces, cars and back decks will most likely experience the accumulating snow first with pavement temperatures just a little warmer.
Overall accumulations remain on track with roughly one to two inches along the Highway 20 corridor, higher amounts to the north and lesser amounts to the south.

Roads may become slick tonight as temperatures continue to fall below freezing by Wednesday morning.  Untreated surfaces will most likely be the most problematic, but black ice could be an issue early Wednesday.

There is currently a little break in the snowfall, but additional light snow will move in from the west between 9pm and Midnight.

A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect for Stephenson, Jo Daviess, Carroll and Green counties and will go into effect for Rock and Walworth counties beginning at 7pm, lasting through early Wednesday morning.

Most of Tuesday was filled with light rain, drizzle and fog but there have been some reports of snow and sleet over far northwest Illinois and southwest Wisconsin.  Temperatures were limited to the mid and upper 30's and have now begun to fall back into the low 30's from Monroe to Galena.  With the incoming cooler air the transition over to wintry weather will continue to take place from west to east through 7pm/8pm, with most locations switching over to snow later this evening and overnight.

Accumulations will remain light with roughly one to two inches of snow from Highway 20 northward, with around two inches over southern Wisconsin.  Roads may be a little slick in the morning, especially with temperatures falling back below freezing.

Winds will also increase gusting close to 30 mph during the overnight, dropping visibility down for a time through Wednesday morning.
