Winter Just Won't End

It's the winter season that just doesn't want to end!  Blizzard Warnings, Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Storm Watches have been issued ahead of a very strong storm system that will move through the Central Plains Friday, and eventually over the southern Great Lakes by Saturday afternoon.

Ahead of the low strong to severe thunderstorms will occur over parts of Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri and Arkansas Friday afternoon and evening.  A couple gusty thunderstorms could work north into northern Illinois late in the afternoon and evening.  But the overall severe threat for the Stateline looks low.

On the colder side of the storm system snow will fall, which could add up to quite a bit for parts of the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest.  Not only will the snow be falling but the winds will increase, gusting close to 50 mph Friday night for areas under the Blizzard Warning.  Snow accumulations between six and twelve inches are possible for parts of the South Dakota and Nebraska, with totals closer to five to nine inches over northern Wisconsin.

The transition over to snow will occur in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois late Saturday and Sunday.  Slushy accumulations on grassy surfaces, up to an inch, are possible.
