Another Round of Snow Tuesday

Snow totals yesterday generally stayed between about 1-3", with a few locally higher amounts through southern Wisconsin.

That same low pressure system will now be moving over central Illinois this afternoon, which will keep the threat for snow showers into the afternoon and early evening tonight. Through the morning, scattered snow showers began to increase in coverage as moisture began to spread into the area, pinwheeling around the low. As the low approaches, we will notice an uptick in snow, with periods of moderate snow possible. This will drop visibility into the afternoon, and will allow for a few slick areas into the early evening. Most of the snow showers will be light, but embedded in them there will be moderate to briefly heavy snow falling. These would be convection snow bands, that occur due to an increase in instability. Instability will grow across the area this afternoon, due to incoming cold air aloft in the atmosphere associated with the low pressure system.

Snow accumulations will be minor, due to temperatures climbing today allowing for a lot of melting snow. However, in some of those moderate to heavy snow bands, snow totals could climb up to a half inch. the snow showers will come to an end this evening, with a few scattered flurries lingering into Wednesday behind the departing low.

The rest of the work week will be a bit more quiet, but colder! Highs will be stuck in the 30's through Friday.
